Child’s Eye Media is making Part 1 of its its award-winning film ‘A child’s eye view of safety with fireworks’ free to view from 4pm on 4th November 09 to 4pm on Sunday 8th November – so that children, teachers and parents across the country can benefit from the important safety messages woven into the film.

Part 2, in which Firefighter Tony joins Daisy and Mikey and their friends in fun activities - including fitting smoke alarms to the dolls' house! - is part of the unique Keeping Myself Safe DVD (see below), specially designed to get across tricky messages to young children about stranger danger, road safety, beach safety and fire safety, without worrying or nagging them!

The delightful 'A child's eye view of safety with fireworks' tells the story of a fireworks party held by Daisy (4) and Mikey (3) and their families.

The film was devised in consultation with BERR and the Fire Kills campaign, and has been endorsed by the Children’s Safety Education Foundation and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

The film won a Gold Award in the Practical Preschool Awards 2008. It brings alive the messages of the Firework Code in an enjoyable and memorable way, not only for children but for adults, too, showing how two families prepare for a joint fireworks party with the help of firefighter Tony.

The Firework Code

Visit www.direct.gov.uk/fireworks

  • Only buy fireworks marked BS7114.
  • Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.
  • Keep fireworks in a closed box.
  • Follow the instructions on each firework.
  • Light at arm’s length, using a taper.
  • Stand well back.
  • Never go near a firework that has been lit.
    Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode.
  • Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.
  • Always supervise children around fireworks.
  • Light sparkers one at a time and wear gloves.
  • Never give sparklers to a child under five.
  • Keep pets indoors.
