Animal diary role play sheetsWatch Section 2, 'Feeding the giraffes', of the Giraffes' segment of A Child's Eye View of Safari.
In this delightful scene, five year old Ellie and six year old Nishaan help Gary the giraffe keeper to fill in his animal diary for the day.
Attach the sheet(s) to clipboards, with pencils attached on a string, and keep in shoeboxes very close by to your small world wild animal area, so children can be 'safari park keepers' or 'zoo keepers', and fill in the diary sheets as they play.
Under 'notes', they could write down (e.g) what an animal has eaten, whether they have learned something new, have been ill or had an accident, had a baby etc.
Outside, children can create a 'safari park' or 'zoo', with soft toy animals. Place the shoeboxes containing the diary sheets on clipboards very close by.
Just like the role play sheets in the Young Writers' Role Play Pack, the Animal diary sheets have been differentiated for both mark makers and emergent writers.
